This historic station was built by the Memphis and Charleston Railroad in 1860. When Union troops captured Hunstville in 1862, it was used as a temporary prison. The M&C later became part of Southern Railway (now Norfolk Southern). The station has been restored as part of a transporation museum. The freight depot on the north side of the tracks was once the oldest freight station in use in the United States. Unfortunately it was badly damaged by fire in 2004.
